Additional hike of 20 per cent for the forces?
Written by Administrator on June 24th, 2008Alarmed by the exodus of talent from the armed forces, the government is likely to announce a bonanza that would enhance the pay and perks of the men in battle fatigues by 15 to 20 per cent.
It is also expected to create around 4,000 more posts of colonels, brigadiers and generals in the Army and their equivalents in the Navy and Air Force to address the issue of resentment due to stagnation in the forces.
The new pay package for the armed forces is likely to be finalised at a meeting of the three service chiefs and other top officials led by Defence Minister A K Antony with the empowered group of secretaries headed by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar on Thursday.
The Ministry has been seeking a raise of 15 per cent to 20 per cent in salaries of the armed forces in view of the dissatisfaction expressed by them over the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.
The dissatisfaction reportedly triggered an increase in the number of Premature Retirement applications, which has touched the 1,000 mark recently.
Chiefs of Staff Committee Chairman Admiral Sureesh Mehta would make a presentation to the Committee of Secretaries before it is submitted to the Cabinet.
The empowered panel will study the proposal for increase in basic pay across all ranks by 15 to 20 per cent, over and above the hike already suggested by the pay commission.
An enhanced Military Service Pay of Rs 3,000 for Personnel Below Officer Rank instead of the pay commission recommended Rs 1,000 is likely to get a nod, sources said.

Really it is good increase inaddition to the pay commission(6th) recommendation. In order to give proper encroachment to the defence personnel it is good attractive recommendation. If approved as suggested by COS the 3 defence personnel those have good talent should also have duty to the nation as was done by them now. Kept it up the spirit and good mood after the cabinet approval.

The expected increase of another 15-20 % for the armed forces personnel, though encouraging, reflects suxccumbing to the pressure by virtue of mass applications for pre-retirement by officers. The Government could and should have avoided creating such a mess at the outset by impressing upon the pay-panel members to take cognizance of the need of the hour in respect of pay recommendations for the armed forces personnel. Any how, it will only be good if the proposed hikes are given right to the bottom level functionaries rather than only those at the higher echelons.

An Army man earns half pay by comming under army act.He looses his fundamental rights, which is enjoyed by all other civilians.Remaining half he earns for the job he does, icluding fighting of a war.In war every one does not and should not die.He will kill the enemy and wins the war.How ever in India no one respects the winning soldier. They take his life granted. The most efficient people get the least pay package.Only in India it happens.Civil supremacy does not mean lesser pay for Armed forces. It is the iterpretation of arrogant IAS beaurocrats, and know not politicians. It means Parliament is supreme. Our beaurocracy is scared of the Army Officers. They have a fear of being dominated.Thats why they dont want the CDS appointment, and hence always try to deny most of the things to Armed forces. They managed not to take an Army man in the Pay commission, and dealt a sever blow to Armed forces. The bubble already started blowing.Let it not burst, due to ill advise of our IAS,to the politicians

the biggest problem with army officers is that they ask for more than their “aaukaat” . The IAS officers are controlling this country. they have “aukaat” to get more. If army officers also feel they aukaat to get more they should also come forward and takeover the control of this country so that they get more
