I-Day speach : No reference to retirement age / arrears
Written by Administrator on August 15th, 2009Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the nation on the 62nd Independence Day from the ramparts of the Red Fort in Delhi on an overcast Saturday morning. Much was emphasis was given to bringing back the economy – to a 9% growth.
The expected announcement on increment in the retirement ages of the government servants or the pay commission did not find a place in the speech. It was announced that the government have accepted the recommendations of the committee on the issue of pension of ex-servicemen. This will benefit 12 lakh retired jawans and JCOs.
The Prime Minister chose to stick to priority subjects like education and agriculture. The most important foreign policy decision in 60 year, the nuclear deal, found no mention in the speech.

I’m not in favour of the proposed increment of the retiring age from 60 to 62 years. It would be a rather better benefit to the society to lift up the ban on recruitment. The fresh faces from the society should be welcomed to the government service. I am expectant of the release of 60% arrears of 6CPC. Would it see the light of the earth before the festivals?

Raising the retirement age of central govt. staff will leads to more unemployment problems. In my openion the retirement age should be reduced to 58 yrs., by which govt. servant can enjoy the pension life at least for some more years.

Raising retirement age will be blessing who do not work at all. Where youth’ll go? To stop frustration among young unempyed youth, government should not take this step. If government wants to oblige some servants if they are asset to the nation then on merit they should be given extention but not all.

This Congress led UPA Govt. whatever it does only for earning votes from the public and wants gaddi. This is not the time of election like previous year so they have not uttered anything. They came to power by back door in Lok sabha because they got all the postal ballots as it happened in Punjab by bribing a major who orederd all the army peoples to vote for congress but no enquiry was ordered even it came out in the web site.

I expect that PM will announce the retirement age of employees to 62 from 60 in the Independence day speech. But no talk about this.
August 16th, 2009 at 12:36 am
Is it true? By end of this month or early next month we will get the 60% arrears.

I had strongly argued to reduce the retirement age to 55 when it was raised from 58 to 60. I had many years to serve then. Now I wish it be raised to 65 as I am nearing my retirement and have many things to settle.

FOR HEAVEN SAKE DONT ASK FOR INCREASE IN RETIREMENT AGE, IF IT COMES IT WILL BE AT THE COST OF UN-EMPLOYMENT FOR YOUR CHILDREN WHICH WILL COMPELL THEM/LIABLE TO BE EXPLOITED BY ANTI-NATIONAL ORGANISATIONS

If there is an orgnisation where the 80/20 principle applies to the Tee, it is the Govt sector. It is understood that there are some people in the Govt services that have become institutions in themselves in sofar as domain knowledge of their field is concerned, and their retention for two more years could fetch rich dividends( in any case they form 5% of the the govt work force). It is also true that the life expectancy has gone up over the years, and as a result a man at 60 has enough reserves to last him another two years without any drop in perfomance. However the moot point is that the bal 80% of these so called public servants are a drain on the exchequer. These babus only have nuisance value to boast of and are responsible for how the govt sector is perceived these days.
By increasing the retirement age for all and sundry in a stroke, we’d only help perpetuate the current malaise in the system. On the other hand, any provision for selective extention in service may not turn out to be very fruitful as it is open to subjectivity and misuse by our worthy politicians. In any case, there have been cases wherein the top bureaucrats have indeed been given extention based on the merit of the case. To conclude status quo on the current retiremnt policy is the way forward. However, the govt could cosider raising the retiment age for Colonels and their equivalents in the Armed forces by four years, as this would take care of the current shortfall in officers’ strength, and also make Armed forces an attractive career option for the youth.

India can only survive to expected high growth rate if it’s experienced ,most valuable, knowledge pool crossing 60 years thresold is engaged in development process allowing them to any limit they could carry on. Then lies the solution of unemployment which will pour in once fast and high value accelerated growh takes place in the country.
August 16th, 2009 at 5:51 pm
i strongly feel that if govt.want to solve the employment problem they should reduce the retirement at the age of 50 so that new man will get a chance and so many proble will be solved.
August 17th, 2009 at 11:20 am
SUCH ANNOUCEMENTS ARE NOT TO BE MADE FROM RED FORT. RETIREMENT AGE SHOUD BE REDUCED TO 58 YEARS AND CORRECTION MADE FOR MISTAKE DONE 10 YEARS BACK.

I expected a mention about the arrears of 6th CPC in the independence day speech, but no mention about that, its really disappointing. its very bad on governments side to keep all our money with it and not making any mention about the same.
August 17th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
It is a sincere request to the government not to increase the retirement age. This would allow most of the useless lot to remain in the government positions. Efficient people can be made to serve the nation in different ways but incresing the age will make lazy people enjoy the retired life in the office with full salary
August 17th, 2009 at 4:07 pm
every day we are waiting for news about balance 60% arreas, when we will get it?
August 17th, 2009 at 5:04 pm
I strongly recommend that Govt. servants should be kept in service till their last breath and don’t send home at all. Its a foolish idea of the Govt. of India amongst the comity of nations where other nations give priority to the next generation.
Is there any one in the Govt. of India to listen??????? Only the high and the might of the Govt. i.e. IAS (I Agree Sir) and allied services derives the benefit and not the aam aadmi central govt. employees.
August 17th, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Raising retirement age will not benefit to Government in the form of efficiency and accuracy in work.
Govt.may rethink to reduce the retirment age to 58 to pave the way to the youths so as to reduce
unemployment problem.
August 18th, 2009 at 12:01 pm
please do not raise the retirment age upto 60 . so many people on the road sir. they are haveing hire qulification but they do’t have jobs. please reduce the age 55 years.
August 18th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
Raising the retirement age to 62 will be a big mistake if it is done. Future generations will suffer from this decision. Actually Govt should reduce the retirement age to 55 and give some good benefits to the pensioners so that people who retire at the age of 55 will feel secured and happy. By this way employment can be generated.
I urge Prime Minister and UPA Govt. not to increase the retirement age through this medium.
August 19th, 2009 at 11:57 am
If the Govt increases the retirement age from 60 to 62 then father has to feed his son, daughter in law and grand child.Further the grand child has to come to office every day as a bodyguard of the old man.i.e,his/her aged grand father to take him back to home.
August 19th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Please dont think for rest of the 60% bcoz govt has mabny points like recesion ,drught, loan for farmers. Now the govt has no money for servie sector. We have to think about this for the next election.
August 21st, 2009 at 10:31 pm
The government should not hesitate to release 60% arrears to the Pre 1.1.2004 Central Government employees. I hope they will issue a conditional Order to avoid the 60% arrears being drawn and paid to the Post 1.1.2004 for whom updation of profile is required. I hope that the Govt will issue order in such a way before 31st August 2009
August 23rd, 2009 at 3:00 pm
dear sir
It will be a bad decision by the central government, if it is thinking of raising the retirement age from 60 to 60, when millions of youth are waiting in the wings for poaching employment opportunities. just to please the IAS clan, government should not
contemplate to increase the retirement age.
August 24th, 2009 at 11:13 am
Dear sir, It will be a negative decision on part of the govt. who had whole heartedly supported the congress party during the last lok sabha elections to win hands down, if the proposal to increase the retirement is taken.I suggest a few remedies if the govt. can just look into it ,it will not only help them economically but also fullfill the dreams of the youngsters to get employment.Suggestion no.1 Remove commutation as most of the load on the govt. to pay the retired employees will come down.Sugession no.2 Employees above the age can opt for voluntary retirement at the age between 50 to 55 and their ward may be given employment. For e.g. An employee is drawing a salary of 20,000. He will get pension of Rs.10,000. asper new pay commision recommendation and a fresh employee will get a salary of Rs.10,000 so the income of the family remains the same and a new opportunity is given to young blood increasing the efficiency.Suggestion no. 3.Withdraw the vehicle facility of the officers who enjoy vehicle facility and transport allowances at the same time which will help cut down the expenditure.Suggestion no 4.When the commutation amount is not given the money in the market will be less which otherwise is help to contain inflation.

If government of India do not want to raise the age to 62 years it would be better to remove the site from the web. It creates a lot of mental agony amongst the government servants who are on the verge of retirement. It is better and it is utmost responsibility of the government to catecorigaly announce whether it proposes to enhance or not, so that the eagerly awaiting government servants will come to a final clarification from govt. side and take appropriate decision accordingly. To leave the message alive in web site nothing but a cheating the anxious central government servants who are having their own plans and dreams. whether Govt. of India will take a quickest action either to announce the exact date of implementation or to remove the news from the site to avoid unnecessary speculation or imagination amongst the needy govt. employees?

Dear Sir, It is quite common that unlike European Countries, as soon as Indians cross the age of 50, they tend to depend upon others for lending a helping hand to them. This applies not only in their homes, but also in offices. Further, most of our Indian population are affected by ill-health and most of the people at the verge of their retirement tend to remain quiet in their seats doing a minimal, superficial work and even in some cases they bestow least attention in their work. Most of the Indian population after becoming old tend to criticize the youngsters demanding courtesy and respect and they simply shirk their responsibilities in their work, saying that their game is coming to a close and it is for the youngsters to continue and do the work after they leave their seat and so saying they simply while away their time in the seats. Even the officers do not question them because they are at the verge of retirement. Needless to say, there are some bandicoots, which know all the ways to swell their pockets illegally by going around carrying tales and remain without doing any work or work lethargically. In Indian condition, the retirement age as 60 years would be just and reasonable. For any sake, the government should not consider to enhance the age to 62 years, as it would result in heavy unforeseen damages within the next few years. I may even add that there are some officials at the age of 60 talking old things that existed about 40 years back and torturing not only their colleagues, but also the general public. Hence, I pray that the Government of India as well as all State Governments in India should give up the idea of enhancing the retirement age from 60 to 62.
